# What is the .bun/install/cache folder on my Mac?

It belongs to **Bun**. Here’s what’s inside and the right way to deal with it.

SafeUsually 500 MB – 10 GBUpdated October 2, 2026By the Tidy Mac team

Short answer

This is Bun’s global install cache: every package version Bun has downloaded. Bun keeps it so installs are near-instant. It’s safe to clear; Bun keeps the folder and fills it again on the next bun install.

**Location:** `~/.bun/install/cache`

## What’s inside

-   Downloaded npm packages, unpacked
-   Package manifests

**Our verdict: Safe.** Your Mac or your apps recreate this automatically. Removing it won’t lose anything you made.

## The Bun way

```
bun pm cache rm
```

`bun pm cache` prints where the cache lives.
