TidyMac + Claude Code: ask about your Mac’s storage

Add TidyMac’s local MCP server to Claude Code and ask about your disk: free space, what grew, what’s safe to remove. Read-only by default.

Setup in one line

Run claude mcp add tidymac -- "/Applications/TidyMac.app/Contents/MacOS/TidyMac" --mcp, then ask Claude Code “How is my Mac’s storage?” It calls TidyMac’s read-only tools and answers with real numbers from your latest scan.

Setup

claude mcp add tidymac -- "/Applications/TidyMac.app/Contents/MacOS/TidyMac" --mcp

Then in Claude Code:

How is my Mac's storage? What grew this week?

The path assumes TidyMac is in Applications. Settings › AI agents in TidyMac shows the exact command for your Mac with a copy button.

The tools your agent gets

ToolWhat it returns
get_storage_overviewFree space, the storage bar, safely-freeable space, trend and forecast.
list_categoriesEvery part of hidden storage with size, safety label and a one-line explanation.
get_categoryThe full explanation of one category, plus its biggest items.
get_space_historyFree space per day and every clean.
what_grewWhich categories grew or shrank since N days ago.
get_suggestionsTidyMac’s smart suggestions with the bytes involved.
list_large_filesThe biggest files in your own folders (never removed by TidyMac).
list_other_big_foldersBig folders outside the library, with the owning app and whether it’s installed.
request_cleanupOnly when you allow it: asks you to review a cleanup in TidyMac. Never cleans on its own.

Safety

  • Read-only by default. Agents see sizes, labels and explanations, never file contents.
  • request_cleanup exists only if you turn on Let agents ask to clean up in Settings. It opens TidyMac's review screen; you approve or deny.
  • Files only ever go to the Trash. Every agent call is listed in Settings.

Try asking

  • "How is my Mac's storage?"
  • "What grew this week?"
  • "What's safe to clean before I pull this Docker image?"

Let TidyMac do this for you

Scan free, see every part of your storage explained, and clean only what’s safe. Everything goes to the Trash first.
