Is it safe to delete this folder on my Mac?
Paste a folder path and get our verdict, with the reason and the right way to shrink it. Covers caches, developer files, AI tools like Claude, Codex and Cursor, and the macOS folders you should never touch.

Check every folder at once
Tidy Mac measures your whole Mac, labels each item Safe to clear, Worth a look or Kept, and moves what you pick to the Trash with Undo. $19 once, 2 Macs.
How it works
Each verdict comes from the same hand-checked rules as our System Data explainer and the 42 entries in our folder library. The most specific rule wins, so ~/Library/Caches and an app’s folder inside Application Support can get different answers.
Safe means macOS or the app recreates it. Check first means part of it may matter to you. Your choice means it’s fine to delete but it costs you something, like a re-download. Leave alone means don’t.
Questions
Is it safe to delete ~/Library/Caches on a Mac?
Yes, for apps that are closed. Caches are temporary copies apps rebuild on their own. Quit the app first, skip music and video apps that keep offline downloads there, and never touch /System or /Library/Caches.
What should I never delete on a Mac?
Anything in /System, /usr or /private/var, your ~/Library/Preferences, keys in ~/.ssh, and app data in Application Support or Containers for apps you still use. Photos, Mail and Messages should be managed from inside those apps.
Where do I find a folder’s path?
In Finder, select the folder and press Option-Command-C to copy its path, or drag it into this box. For hidden folders, use Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G) and type the path.
Does this tool look at my Mac?
No. It matches the path you type against our hand-checked library, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is deleted.
