What is the Google/Chrome folder on my Mac?

It belongs to Google Chrome. Here’s what’s inside and the right way to deal with it.

Short answer

The Google/Chrome folder in Application Support is your Chrome profile: bookmarks, history, passwords, extensions and site data. Never delete it to free space. The cache in ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome is safe to clear with Chrome closed, or use Chrome’s own Delete browsing data.

Location: ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome · ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome

What’s inside

  • Profiles with bookmarks, history and saved passwords
  • Extensions and site storage
  • Cache (separate folder in ~/Library/Caches)
TidyMac label: Check first. This may be the only copy of something. Look at the details before removing.

The safe way

In Chrome, open Settings › Privacy and security › Delete browsing data, choose Cached images and files. That clears the cache without touching your profile.

What not to delete

~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome holds your profile. Deleting it signs you out of everything and removes local bookmarks and history.

Find every folder like this on your Mac

TidyMac lists big folders outside its library, checks which app owns each one and whether that app is still installed, and explains it.
