Quit Discord from the menu bar, drag it from Applications to the Trash, then remove ~/Library/Application Support/discord (settings plus Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache), ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord and its ShipIt update cache, ~/Library/Preferences/com.hnc.Discord.plist and its saved state. Your messages and servers stay on Discord’s servers.

Where Discord leaves files
| Location | What it is | After uninstalling |
|---|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/discord | Settings, local storage, Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache | Safe |
| ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord | Cache | Safe |
| ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord.ShipIt | Downloaded updates | Safe |
| ~/Library/Preferences/com.hnc.Discord.plist | Preferences | Safe |
| ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.hnc.Discord.savedState | Window positions | Safe |
In Finder choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G) and paste a path to open it. Safe means nothing you made is inside; Check first means it may hold the only copy of something. To see how much space they use, run this read-only command in Terminal:
du -sh ~/Library/Application\ Support/discord ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord ~/Library/Caches/com.hnc.Discord.ShipIt ~/Library/Preferences/com.hnc.Discord.plist ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/com.hnc.Discord.savedState 2>/dev/nullThe folder name doesn’t match the app
Discord’s bundle ID is com.hnc.Discord, but its main data folder is simply discord, in lowercase, in Application Support. That’s why searching for “Discord” in Finder can miss it.
Using PTB or Canary too?
Discord’s test builds keep separate folders (discordptb, discordcanary). Remove those only if you uninstall those builds as well.
Keeping Discord?
Quit it and delete only Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache inside the discord folder. Discord rebuilds them and you stay signed in. More about this folder
Uninstall Discord with TidyMac
TidyMac’s uninstaller lists every app with its size and last use, and finds the leftovers that belong to it by bundle ID. Remove Discord and its leftovers in one review: everything goes to the Trash first, you confirm twice, TidyMac checks the disk afterwards, and you can put anything back. Leftovers from apps you already deleted are found too, labelled Check first.
Uninstall apps and their leftovers in one step
See every part of your storage explained, and clean only what’s safe after you confirm twice. $9.99, one time.
Frequently asked questions
Does dragging Discord to the Trash uninstall it completely?
No. It removes the app, but Discord leaves 5 kinds of files behind in your Library and elsewhere: settings, local storage, cache, code cache and gpucache; cache; downloaded updates. The steps above remove them.
What is Discord’s bundle ID on Mac?
com.hnc.Discord. Most of its leftover files and folders are named after it, which is how you (and TidyMac) can tell they belong to Discord.
Can I reinstall Discord later?
Yes. Download it again from Discord. Anything stored in your account online comes back when you sign in; local-only data you removed does not.
