Let Notion finish syncing, quit it, and drag Notion from Applications to the Trash. Then remove ~/Library/Application Support/Notion (offline copies and cache), ~/Library/Caches/notion.id and notion.id.ShipIt, ~/Library/Preferences/notion.id.plist and its saved state. Your pages live in your Notion workspace, not on the Mac.
Uninstall Notion step by step
- Open Notion and make sure recent edits have synced.
- Quit Notion (Notion › Quit Notion).
- Drag Notion from Applications to the Trash.
- Move ~/Library/Application Support/Notion to the Trash.
- Move ~/Library/Caches/notion.id and notion.id.ShipIt to the Trash.
- Move ~/Library/Preferences/notion.id.plist and ~/Library/Saved Application State/notion.id.savedState to the Trash.
- Empty the Trash.
Where Notion leaves files
| Location | What it is | After uninstalling |
|---|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/Notion | Offline copies of pages, cache and sign-in | Check first |
| ~/Library/Caches/notion.id | Cache | Safe |
| ~/Library/Caches/notion.id.ShipIt | Downloaded updates | Safe |
| ~/Library/Preferences/notion.id.plist | Preferences | Safe |
| ~/Library/Saved Application State/notion.id.savedState | Window positions | Safe |
In Finder choose Go › Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G) and paste a path to open it. Safe means nothing you made is inside; Check first means it may hold the only copy of something. To see how much space they use, run this read-only command in Terminal:
du -sh ~/Library/Application\ Support/Notion ~/Library/Caches/notion.id ~/Library/Caches/notion.id.ShipIt ~/Library/Preferences/notion.id.plist ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/notion.id.savedState 2>/dev/nullAn unusual bundle ID
Notion’s Mac app identifies itself as notion.id, not com.notion…. Searching Library for “com.notion” finds nothing, which is why its caches are easy to miss.
Your pages are in the workspace
Notion stores pages in your workspace online. The local folder holds offline copies and cache, so removing it loses nothing that has synced. If you’ve been working offline, open Notion online once before uninstalling. For a full copy of your content, use Notion’s workspace export in Settings.
Notion Calendar and Notion Mail are separate apps
They have their own app bundles and folders. Uninstalling Notion doesn’t remove them, and removing them doesn’t affect Notion.
Uninstall Notion with TidyMac
TidyMac’s uninstaller lists every app with its size and last use, and finds the leftovers that belong to it by bundle ID. Remove Notion and its leftovers in one review: everything goes to the Trash first, you confirm twice, TidyMac checks the disk afterwards, and you can put anything back. Leftovers from apps you already deleted are found too, labelled Check first.
Uninstall apps and their leftovers in one step
See every part of your storage explained, and clean only what’s safe after you confirm twice. $9.99, one time.
Frequently asked questions
Does dragging Notion to the Trash uninstall it completely?
No. It removes the app, but Notion leaves 5 kinds of files behind in your Library and elsewhere: offline copies of pages, cache and sign-in; cache; downloaded updates. The steps above remove them.
What is Notion’s bundle ID on Mac?
notion.id. Most of its leftover files and folders are named after it, which is how you (and TidyMac) can tell they belong to Notion.
Can I reinstall Notion later?
Yes. Download it again from Notion Labs. Anything stored in your account online comes back when you sign in; local-only data you removed does not.
